There are certain sets of responses to art, dualisms per the original meaning of “co-eternal binary oppositions,” that I find particularly interesting.  One such set consists of “Of course someone was going to do that,” the response provoked by art that, despite its newness, seems to bear nothing more substantive than the weight of pre-emptive deja vu, such as this installation by Rachel Whiteread [“Place (Village)” (2006–08)]….
